‘Air’ Swing

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

ーOnchan-Shisho’s reportー

The other day on the blog I posted a picture of me ‘air’ swinging, here’s a little more explanation.

That was satire. Most of the temporary housing is built over parks throughout the various districts of Ishinomaki. This includes the emergency provisional housing in Northern Hebita Park #2 which I have moved into.  There is not a single park in Ishinomaki at the moment. The location of that photograph from the other day used to be Shinsakai Yachi South Park.

The swing set was still there but for some reason there were no swings attached.  The slide and sandbox were fenced off by ropes, silently declaring “Keep out”.  I was able to climb around on the jungle gym which had been inexplicably left alone. Other parks that have been turned into temporary housing have also apparently had their equipment removed.

What I’m really trying to say is, there is no place for kids to play in Ishinomaki right now.  None. I want them to be able to play safely.  Instead they are playing in the streets and alleys, anywhere they can find a little open space. With some ingenuity Rainbow Crayons will find ways around this but it would sure be nice if we didn’t have to.
