The big plan to surprise Ai-chan!

ー Provisional housing in the Minamizakai District Park (Machan’s report) ー

Today we held our activities at the provisional housing in the Minamizakai District Park. It was cold today and we got a few inches of snow during the day, but the children were vigorously running outside and waiting for us.

At first we played a “fishing game” with a long jump rope. (Shigeki was the fisher and the children were the fish, and he caught them with the jump rope .) Shigeki was very pleased by his big catch.

After the fishing game, we did some high jumps and limbo dancing. I was impressed by how flexible they were. The only thing we could do was to hold the rope.

We got worn out and started to talk about Ai-chan who was a bit late because of personal errands. We spontaneously decided to plan a big surprise for Ai-chan and agreed to surprise him by hiding all over the place.

In the beginning, they had mean ideas like, “Let’s grab his leg and make him fall down!” or “We can jump out all at once and surprise him!”, but before long, they changed the plan to surprise him by using the Christmas tree we had in the assembly room.

The oldest fifth grad girl took charge of the plan, and they rehearsed Ai-chan’s arrival countless times.

And then, he showed up! Their big plan was a great success because of all the practice. I think that their spirited singing resonated out of the assembly room and reached the people living in the provisional housing as a surprise gift.

Today was the day we saw the children’s great affection for Ai-chan.
