From Yamaguchi and Saga Prefectures, “We’ll Be Back”

March 3rd, 2012

Today’s activities were at the provisional housing complexes at Sue Industrial Park and Asahi Kasei Power Devices Company Properties.

– Boochan’s Report –

Along with Onchan-Shisho, Machan and Boochan, we were joined by a whole bunch of guests today.  From far away Yamaguchi University came 12 college students, and a high-school and a college student came from Saga Prefecture.

Our activities split us into two locations at Asahi Kasei Devices and Sue Industrial Park.

Meeting for the first time didn’t seem to faze anyone and both the kids and students dived right in!

Taking command of the college students, one of the elementary school girls began an improv comedy routine.  When a punchline fell flat the audience would throw balls at them.  It was the beginning of a new comedy collaboration between Miyagi Prefecture and Yamaguchi Prefecture.

The team playing outdoors was intent on jumping rope.  I was surprised to see one of the kids attempting the very difficult ‘Double Dutch’ style with two ropes swinging in alternate directions.

One of the girls was struggling jumping rope so a pretend train was started.  The girl in rabbit-ears was the driver.

I’m not sure how much the youth from Yamaguchi and Saga learned about conditions in Ishinomaki during their short stay.  I do know their parting words, “we’ll be back”, has all the kids waiting for their return!

Thanks everyone.
