Rainbow of Colors

June 10th, 2012

– Takaki’s Report –
Our activity today was at the provisional housing at Takasago Ichome Park.

Dark clouds were hanging low in the sky and it looked like it would rain any moment. The kids played ball, made reed whistles, played in the water, and experimented with watercolours.

One of the girls who had just started elementary school this spring exclaimed “we haven’t done this in school yet!” as she attacked the watercolours with zeal.

She was squeezing the color pink out of it’s tube, “This color is really popular”, indeed, there appeared to be much less remaining compared to the other colours.

She squeezed some brown onto her tanned skin to compare, “Brown isn’t as popular but I like it.”
Applying a healthy dose of color to her brush and stabbing it towards the sky, she said, “I think I can reach it.” To me its just a cloudy sky but to the kids it’s like a canvas to paint on.

“It’s rainbow colored!”, yelled the kids playing in the water. As adults we no longer see these things, or perhaps we ignore them… Thankfully the kids showed us a whole bunch of rainbows today.

Our volunteers were Narumin, Yukikun and myself.
