Nijiiro Even In The Snow

December 9th, 2012

Onchan-Shisho’s Report

Today we went to the provisional housing at Takasago Ichome. Hide-san, Iwasawa-san and myself traveled by car through the snow, Narumin caught the train from Sendai, and we all met in Takasago at 10:20. The children were already waiting outside for us.

The children were unconcerned with the cold temperatures and falling snow.  Not to be outdone, we also put on a brave face and battled it out in snowball fights and soccer ball place kicking challenges.

After 40 minutes we all had our fill of playing outside and moved into the lounge. Prior to our arrival the lounge had been occupied by a half dozen residents of the housing complex socializing over tea. “It must have been cold out there”, in a really thick local accent one of them offered, “have a hot potato”.

The steaming potatoes were passed around to all of the children and Nijiiro members.  They were really sweet and tasty.  After everyone had taken a short break we spent the rest of the time hanging out and talking, painting, and making bead crafts.

In no time it was 12 o’clock and we escorted everyone to their homes and bid them goodbye. We had a great time again today.
